Slight Shift in Hours Starting Aug31st

Image
We continue to work with Premier Shooting & Training to ensure we get a late time slot on Mon and Wed as they juggle many factors.  Next week we will have the same schedule as we have currently: Mon Aug 24th  6:30-7:30PM Main Dojo Wed Aug 26th  6:30-7:30PM Main Dojo Starting Mon Aug 31st onward, we will meet :  7:00-8:00PM (still every Mon and Wed). We will meet in the "Alpha" training room , which is across from the locker rooms.

Go get 'em, Hanna!

We have been training with Hanna since 2013! As college lures her away we want to thank her and wish her well. We also hope life doesn't take her too far away from the dojo. Please come back to throw us and swing weapons! It won't be as much fun without someone laughing at Daryl as you do :). Here are snapshots taken over the years:

Aikido Training Continues - Safely

Image
Classes are Mon and Wed,   6:30PM - 7:30PM at   Premier Shooting & Training . We continue practicing Aikido while "distancing", which means we wear masks, pair up with family members, and focus on weapons instead of close-contact throwing.    Practicing with weapons enhances our understanding of maintaining proper distance with opponents and improves our footwork. Plus it is fun. Looking for safe activity during these crazy times? Consider training with us.

Masks are expected

Image
Members, The Governor has ordered masks to be worn in public spaces in the red zones (i.e. Butler county OH). Seth and I will be wearing masks for class and adjusting practice to accommodate the wearing of masks. Any mask you feel comfortable with is fine. If you have any issues with a mask we will make accommodations for your needs.  We will not be doing ukemi practice in the warm-ups. We will continue with weapons only. The rest of the martial arts classes at the dojo will also be wearing masks.  If you have any concerns or questions please let me know. As always our intention is to practice and transmit the art Aikido as safely and respectfully as possible.  Sincerely, Sensei Dirk Domaschko

Practicing weapons, safely!

Image
We are back, and practicing Aikido safely.  Please join us Mon and  Wed nights, currently 6:30-7:30PM and Premier Shooting & Training in West Chester OH 45069.  Since Aikido emerged from handling & disarming swords/staffs, we are focusing on these weapons (wooden versions, bokken and jo). We stay distanced Wear masks when appropriate Pair up with family members when getting close (we have several parent-child students pairs) Thanks to Sow Elhadg for most of these photos!

Re-Opening Wed May 27th

Image
We are re-opening class Wed. May 27th. Hours at our venue Premier Shooting & Training has changed, so we are shifting too. Classes will still be Mon and Wed, but mat time  will now be 6:30PM - 7:30PM. The site will close at 7PM, so doors will be locked then. Feel welcome to arrive and leave in your gi's (i.e., if you want to avoid the locker rooms, which have always been clean but many people are trying to minimize contact now with any surface). We will be practicing Aikido while "distancing", which means we will be ~6feet apart practicing weapons and kata for a while. We'll have extra weapons for members who lack them. Masks are optional. Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns. We look forward to training again while being safe. Best, Dojo Cho Sensei Domaschko & Sensei Lindberg

Holding Pattern Continues - Expect slight hour change

Image
April 29th update.  Governor DeWine's most recent update has the  phase-1 re-opening beginning early May, so there is hope we will see  each other soon.  We fall under the category of "gyms" and will part of the phase-2  reopening (timing TBD).  Premier Shooting and Training is planning on shifting their hours  again (a trend starting before the COV-19 crisis, made more  complicated now); this instance, the venue hours will affect us. This is not 100% confirmed yet, but we expect that our mat time will  be shifted to a 6:30PM-7:30PM slot (still on Mon and Wed); note, this  is still the latest time-slot available.  We hope that will not interfere with work schedules. As mentioned before, when we do reconvene we'll keep our ~6foot  distance and practice weapons initially. We'll be in touch with updates. Stay safe, Dojo Cho Sensei Domaschko Sensei Lindberg

Classes cancelled until further notice

Image
As of 3PM March 16th, Ohio Governor DeWine ordered all fitness & athletic centers closed because of the COVID-19 response. So contrary to our recently posted strategy, we are canceling classes from today... until we are allowed to reopen. Obviously, we do not know that date yet. Current estimates vary widely. When we do open again, we will likely focus on non-contact practice (ie weapons) for a while. We appreciate your patience. Stay safe and stay tuned. Regards, Dojocho Sensei Domascho & Sensei Lindberg

COVID-19 Class Announcement

Image
In response to the COVID-19 situation, we plan on only working on the  weapons curriculum for the next 2 weeks. This will eliminate  skin-to-skin and close-contact. We will be focusing on the kata, kumijo, kumitachi and possibly Iaido  if there is interest. There is plenty of curriculum and detail to work  on with the weapons. We will bring extra weapons for any who need them.  After 2 weeks (~end of March) we will reassess and go from there. We will also be complying with the cleaning and sanitization going on  at Premier Shooting & Training.  The facility plans to remain open and we plan to train as safely as  possible as long as we can. We also recommend washing your gis after every class  and wiping down your weapons.  Of course, if you feel unwell take the  time to get better. We think these steps will address the current situation. If you have  concerns or recommendations please let us know. Martial arts training  is a deeply personal choice and challenging in the
